What is an IPL photofacial?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. Rather than a single laser wavelength, it sends gentle pulses of broad-spectrum light into the skin, where the energy is absorbed by the brown of sun spots and the red of vessels and flushing. Those targets break down and your body clears them naturally, while the surrounding skin is left intact. The result is a brighter, more uniform complexion without resurfacing the whole surface of your skin.

What an IPL photofacial treats

IPL is best for tone and colour concerns rather than texture or deep lines.

  • Sun spots, age spots, and general sun damage
  • Redness, flushing, and the visible signs of rosacea
  • Broken capillaries and small spider veins on the face
  • An uneven, blotchy complexion that looks tired
  • Overall dullness and lack of clarity

Is an IPL photofacial right for you?

IPL works beautifully on many skin tones, but because it targets pigment, it is not suitable for every skin type, and recent tans need to settle first. That is exactly what your consultation is for. We assess your skin, ask about sun exposure and any history of pigment concerns like melasma, and confirm IPL is the right choice or point you toward a peel or laser that fits better.

Recovery and downtime

  • You may look flushed or slightly pink for a few hours, similar to a mild sunburn warmth.
  • Sun spots often look darker, almost like coffee grounds, for 3 to 7 days before they flake away and fade. This is a sign the treatment is working, so let them shed naturally and do not pick.
  • Any swelling around the eyes or treated areas is usually mild and settles within a day or two.
  • Daily medical-grade sunscreen is essential afterward, both to protect your results and to stop new pigment from forming. Avoid direct sun and heat (saunas, hot yoga) for a few days.
  • Most guests return to normal activities and makeup right away, with mineral makeup the gentlest choice for the first day.

Treatments that Pair Well

Home Care Tip: a daily medical-grade SPF 30 or higher, a vitamin C antioxidant serum in the morning, and a gentle barrier-supporting moisturizer.

Most guests find it very tolerable. The pulses feel like a quick, warm snap against the skin, cushioned by a cooling gel. No numbing is required for most people.

Very little. You may be slightly pink for a few hours, and sun spots typically darken then flake off over several days. Most guests return to normal activities right away, with sunscreen as the priority.

Redness can look calmer within days, and sun spots usually fade after they darken and shed over the following week or two. Results build with each session in a series.
